We are looking for an Underwriting Manager – Energy to join our team and play a key role in our Middle East Team. Reporting to the Chief Underwriting Officer, this individual will analyze and underwrite highly complex new and renewal business, under minimal direction, utilizing The Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework as a subject matter expert, ensuring a high-level service to customers.

 

Job Accountabilities

 

As Underwriting Manager - Energy, your role will involve: 

• Manage market facing underwriters who proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.

• Identifies new growth opportunities with key distributors for areas of responsibility.

• Ensure that accounts are qualified, and meet with the organization's appetite, balanced with sound business opportunity.

• Along with underwriters in areas supervised, make agents/broker/customer and on-sight calls with a planned and well-prepared purpose.

• Oversee negotiations of Terms & Conditions and closes deals.

• Ensure cross-sell within areas of responsibility to increase product density with the account.

• Provide continuous coaching on sales best practices.

• Mentor staff to develop strong broker and client networks as related to industries underwritten by Business Unit.

• Monitor Sales Funnel and Production Metrics of team.

• Calculate Target Price accurately by utilizing underwriting tools appropriately.

• Identify market trends and coverage's exposures that may impact business results. Work with actuarial to insure a proper rate / price structure.

• Manage relationships with producers by conducting line of business, book of business, class and segment analysis to ensure profitability and growth.

• Market company products and services through agency plant and brokerage community.

• Support development and maintenance of agent/broker relationships to achieve profitable growth, market share, product mix, new business and account retention.

• Improve customer relations, profitability and productivity by continually analyzing branch office´s new business, loss ratio, expense ratio, loss frequency, agency distribution, product mix to determine it´s impact on other business units.

• Review agency books of business as well as profit/growth results and trends to recommend and implement action plans.

 

Job Qualifications

 

To be successful in this role, you will need: 

 

Bachelor’s degree or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area.

Professional certification such as CPCU.

Advanced knowledge of product lines and insurance industry.

Excellent communication skills.

Excellent skills in relationship building.

Strong presentation skills.

Results oriented.

We are currently seeking an experienced audit professional to join our Group Audit in the capacity of Operational & Financial Auditor.

 

Overview of the role

Perform Operational and Financial Audit in accordance with the annual audit plan to evaluate:

The existence, adequacy and effectiveness of internal controls

Compliance with company policies and operating procedures

Controls on safeguarding of assets

Economical and efficient use of resources

Reliability and Integrity of Information

Accomplishment of established business objectives

 

What you will do

Audit Plans and Programs

Assist the Audit Manager in the development of annual audit plan by assessing the degree of risk. 

Assist in the development of audit program for each audit assignment before commencement of the audit. This should be documented as template in (AMS) with risks, control and tests to be performed.

Operational and Financial Audit

Conduct internal audit assignment for evaluation of adequacy and effectiveness of the system of internal control and quality of performance in carrying out assigned responsibilities in all business processes/segments.

Review the approval process to ensure that Group policies/ procedures and delegations of authorities are complied.

Ensure that assets of the group are safe guarded

Audit Reports and Records

Documentation of audit work in Audit Management system which can fully support the audit findings.

Prepare professional audit reports which should clearly communicate findings, analysis, appraisals, recommendations and information concerning the activities audited.

Audit Manager should be timely updated with key findings.

Discuss preliminary audit findings with the concerned staff/ management in order to highlight the observations to management and to get their concurrences.

Assist in preparation of executive summary for each engagement along with the detailed report and audit follow up form.

Assist in the preparation of monthly summary report to be presented to Vice Chairman after it has been reviewed by line manager/Group Director – Internal Audit.

Job holder needs to assist in the follow up on the implementation of audit recommendations

Computer Assisted Audit

Ability to extend audit coverage to a wider and more representative population using computer-based audit techniques. E.g. use of ACL.

Human Resource Development

Achieve high professional standards of audit performance, reports and recommendations in conformity with International Standards of Internal Audit and within the Group’s policy, procedures and long range goals

Special Assignments

Such consulting assignments are performed based on management request in order to establish a fact or to evaluate a specific situation

Frauds, Misappropriations, etc.

Fraud investigation should be conducted in order to identify the loss/exposure, control weaknesses, personnel responsible and recommendation to prevent reoccurrence.

 

Required skills to be successful

The candidate should have thorough knowledge concept of internal controls and generally accepted internal auditing standards.

The candidate should be well versed with data analytics through spreadsheets

The candidate should have a good grasp over verbal and written communication including report writing skills.

The candidate should be self-driven with ability to effectively execute audit assignments with minimal supervision.

The candidate should be able to effectively communicate with personnel across the organizational hierarchy and be able to influence business in a constructive manner.

The candidate should be able to multi-task when situation demands.

Exposure to ERP software such as SAP and Oracle is highly desirable.

Familiarity with data analytics software ACL and audit management / documentation systems is desirable

 

What equips you for the role

Chartered Accountant (CPA, ACA etc.), ACCA, MBA (FINANCE), CIA, CFA, with knowledge of internal audit function

A Minimum of 3 years in internal audit function

This position is responsible for supporting the EMEA region including Switzerland’s Trade Compliance and Trade Security programs.  Position is an on-site position in either Luxembourg - Dudelange or Canada – Bolton Ontario

Key Responsibilities/Areas of Accountability:

General - Interprets regulations for the EMEA region as they may pertain to the organization and implements appropriate trade compliance programs, process, controls, etc. consistent with regulatory requirements based on business risk and process gaps. Advises business of new or changes in regulatory requirements within the region.

Strategic - Regional compliance as it relates to new operation setup, business opportunities and product launches.  Advise on regional specific impacts.  Provide guidance and assistance to business unit management within the region regarding relevant regulations and the integration of regulatory requirements into business plans and processes.

Export Controls – Review exports sanctions and controls to identify impact to business. Works with regional teams to develop and implement export control programs in conjunction with global regulations.

Subject Matter Expert - Represent the organization with relevant government agencies, as needed, to maintain ongoing relations; respond to government inquiries and address issues that are above and beyond day-to-day transactional issues/questions.

Risk Assessments – Preform global risk assessments on business units to identify gaps and mitigate risk. Leads external/internal Customs audits.  Manage forensic investigations in conjunction with Legal, Corporate Audit, Finance and Human Resources department.

Internal/external Audits – Conducts periodic audits of procedures and processes, pre/post entry compliance reviews and implement controls for tariff classification, valuation, country or origin, preferential trade agreement programs, supplier on-site reviews, etc.

Standard Operating Procedures - Responsible for regional compliance manuals and SOP’s.  Work with Global teams to create guidelines and manuals standardizing processes relating to Trade Compliance and regional specific strategic and cost savings initiatives.

Training & Development - Develop compliance knowledge; work with in-country compliance resources and internal/external stakeholders to drive the understanding of trade compliance regulations and integrate the regulatory requirements into business plans and process.  Develop compliance training as necessary.

Leadership - Provides leadership, mentorship, and guidance to the Regional Trade & Customs Compliance Team (interviews, hires and manages the overall performance of the team). Work with Global team to implement global initiatives and strategies at the regional level.

Trade Security Programs (AEO) - Sets the requirements for the country/region as required to maintain certification.

Technical - Subject matter expert for all GTM and software implementations; operations, training, and development.

Technical/Professional Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Strong technical knowledge to interpret government regulations and implement business processes in accordance with the regulation to ensure compliance around import processes, Trade Agreements, export control, trade security, etc.

Proven ability to manage and motivate people, influence others to work towards a common business and/or team goal, resolve conflicts, communicate well with team and others, and provide and be receptive to feedback.

Strong knowledge of implementing regulatory requirements in a manufacturing environment.

Detailed oriented and excellent communication skills verbal and written.  English preferred.

Proficient with Excel, Word and Access (preferred)

ERP knowledge

Qualifications:

 Education

Legal or Trade Compliance Designation preferred.

University degree (Legal, Trade Compliance, Finance)

 

Related Experience

5-7 years of technical trade compliance experience.

International Import & Export Experience preferred.

Leadership experience preferred.
