Summary

The individual with rigorous technical background in operations, commissioning, startup and troubleshooting of oil & gas facilities specially reciprocating gas compressors, gas and diesel engines, Amine systems, Cryogenic plants, compression plants, produced water treatment and oil processing.

Principle Responsibilities and Duties

Closely coordinate with the site operations, execution teams and vendors with focus on Job execution (e.g. troubleshooting, suggest immediate technical solution, and other technical details and solutions).

Attend regular meetings with site teams, track and maintain assigned tasks with specific deadlines, prepare weekly progress reports for review and keep the teams up to date with the work progress,

Work closely with OEM’s to incorporate any changes in parts, designs, service bulletins and specification of the machines and communicate across teams and to the Regional Manager.

Provides immediate technical assistance & advice to site operations to support Company’s operations, performance KPI’s, improve uptime and reduce mean time to repair.

Monitors the performance of operating assets (including but not limited to engines, compressors and generators and associated equipment).

Active support to operations and AMS teams typically on troubleshooting, upgrades, MOC, debottlenecking and follow the accomplishment of modification until implementation.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Instrumentation & Controls, and chemical engineering

Minimum 15-20 years of relevant experience in the similar or a related field such as Engineering, operations, commissioning and technical support especially on gas compressions.

This role is an opportunity for a hands-on, but literally hands-off, technologist with a passion for Linux to build a career with Canonical and drive the success with those leveraging Ubuntu and open source products.  If you have experience of IT operations automation, Infrastructure as Code and a passion for technology, then you will enjoy working with some of the best people in the industry at Canonical.

Job Summary

The IS team at Canonical supports and maintains all of Canonical’s IT production services. The team is in charge of running services used by over 60 million Ubuntu users.

As an SRE & Gitops engineer you’ll be in a unique position to drive operations automation to the next level, both in our own private clouds as well as in the public clouds. We do this by utilizing the best of open source infrastructure as code software, software development practices such as CI/CD pipelines, and Canonical’s leading products for software operation automation.

In addition to defining the infrastructure as code, you will improve Canonical products and the open-source technologies they’re based on by providing critical feedback to developers on how their products operate at scale. This is done by submitting bugs (and sometimes writing pull requests) and collaborating on design and implementations with other teams within the company.

You’ll be part of a global team of SREs that work together and support each other to provide the best possible services to our company, Canonical’s customers and the Ubuntu Community.

As a Site Reliability / Gitops Engineer engineer you will

Apply your experience of IaC to develop infrastructure as code practice within IS by constantly increasing automation and improving IaC processes

Automate software operations for re-usability and consistency across private and public clouds, taking into consideration the complexities of distributed systems

Develop new features and improve the resilience and scalability of the existing cloud and container portfolio at Canonical

Maintain operational responsibility for all of Canonical’s core services, networks, and infrastructure

Develop skills in troubleshooting, capacity planning, and performance investigation, Setting up, maintaining and using observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Elasticsearch; design, implement and maintain monitoring and alerting for various systems and services

Collaborate with development teams to design service architecture, documentation, playbooks, policies and operational procedures

Provide assistance and work with globally distributed engineering, operations, and support peers

Be given uninterrupted development time to focus on larger projects and automation of manual tasks

Share your experience, know-how and best practices with other team members in design sessions, mentorship and ‘doing work together’

Carry final responsibility for time-critical escalations

What we are looking for in you

A deep experience of, and knowledge to define operations in code, using version control, peer review and CI/CD to roll out changes both to applications and infrastructure

Strong modern engineering background (peer-review, unit testing, SCM, CI/CD, Agile)

Python software development experience, with large projects

Practical knowledge of Linux networking, routing, and firewalls

Affinity with various forms of Linux storage, from Ceph to Databases

Hands-on experience administering enterprise Linux servers

Extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies

Bachelor's degree or greater, preferably in computer science or related engineering field

Able to communicate clearly and effectively in English over email, chat, video or voice calls and in-person

Motivated and able to troubleshoot from kernel to web, and willing to ask others when appropriate

A willingness to be flexible and able to learn new things quickly

Be inspired by the needs of fast-changing environments

Happy to work within distributed teams

Be passionate and familiarized about open-source, especially Ubuntu or Debian

Lead Machinery Diagnostics Engineer

You will be providing customers service solutions to address their critical rotating machinery assets, protection, and monitoring systems

As a Machinery Diagnostics Engineer, you will be responsible for:

 

Providing leadership, technical direction, and assistance to the customer, user, and other field personnel in the diagnostic and long-term maintenance of Bently Nevada equipment and customers’ rotating machinery

Performing installations, commissioning, and troubleshooting of Bently Nevada Hardware and Software Products and Solutions at customer locations

Diagnosing machinery problems based upon available data i.e. vibration, process, performance data, maintenance records, customer communications, etc.

Completing timely standard service reports with documentation of findings / recommendations

Reacting to customer required travel in a timely manner, while bringing all required service equipment

Identifying proper installation of permanently installed transducers and monitors and be able to install transducers.

Properly installing temporary shaft, casing, optical, and laser-based transducers to acquire additional machinery data, and professionally use MDS data acquisition instruments to acquire field data, this includes ADRE408, Scout, System 1®

Successfully extracting machinery data plots from MDS data acquisition instruments and System 1®.

Recognizing good versus bad machinery vibration data, coupled with the ability to evaluate the overall quality of a data set.

Recognizing and quantify the severity of machinery vibration data in accordance with applicable industry standards (e.g., API, ISO).

Performing a simple two-channel impact test using an impact hammer and an appropriate accelerometer to determine natural frequencies of structures, rotors, piping, and machinery support systems.

Performing and interpret Operating Deflection Shapes (ODS) and basic modal analysis.

Collecting data for torsional analysis.

Adhering to BH HSE at all work sites, and conduct fieldwork in compliance with all applicable regulations, and customer requirements.

To be successful in this role you will:

Have engineering degree from an accredited institution with a 4-year technical degree. A BSc or MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.

Have minimum of 5 years of experience in Machinery Diagnostics Services Field Services.

Have availability to travel up to 70% of the time, as required.

Have knowledge or experience with mechanical vibration, rotating machinery vibration and/or diagnostics, rotor dynamic analysis, machinery balancing and alignment.

Willing to work at customer plant sites for extended hours and travel widely within the geographic region with short notice.

Previous background in Systems & Instrumentation work, operating plant experience, OEM experience, or industrial co-op program is highly desirable.

Ability to work in arduous temperature environments, heights, and perform all tasks wearing required Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE).

Ability to handle the physical strength and agility requirements of the job in accordance with specific job descriptions.

Ability to interpret and understand machinery mechanical and electrical system drawings and specifications.

Strong command of oral and written communication in English language, plus formal presentations.

Have certification of Vibration Analyst level 2 or higher.

Have valid driving license and passport.
