Systems engineering is a cross-functional engineering discipline centered on an approach, mindset, and process. All activities that consider both the business and the technical needs of the customers with the goal of providing a quality product that meets the users needs. The discipline that executes a robust process of design, creation, and optimization of systems, consisting of identification and quantification of system requirements, creation of alternate system design concepts, performance of design trade studies, selection and implementation of the best designs and verification that the design is properly integrated and executed. Process that proceeds from concept to production to operation.
Impacts approaches, projects and programs in the functional area or affected business organization and ways of working. Impacts quality, efficiency and effectiveness of own team. Has significant input into priorities. Guided by professional practices and policies that are shaped by the role. The role has moderate autonomy, requiring high levels of operational judgment.
Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
Apply HMI, Industrial Networks, OT Cyber Security engineering conventions to understand, propose, design, test and troubleshoot controls systems associated with Industries such as Power, Oil & Gas, LNG and process plants for green / brown field projects.
Review contract documentation, customer specifications and experience in creating equipment specifications and detailed design documentation for the development of appropriate Plant and sub system level industrial automation and network solutions.
Design and Implementation of Industrial Network Architecture for Plant and Sub system level solutions including Controllers, HMIs, Historians, Network Switches, Firewalls, and third-party interfaces etc.
Design and implementation of OT Cybersecurity solutions including Domain Controller, Backup and Recovery, Antivirus, Application Whitelisting, SIEM Solution, Asset management, Patch Management, Certificate Authority and Virtual Machine environment etc.
Deploy security practices and technologies such as vulnerability assessments, intrusion detection / prevention systems and secure remote access solution.
Design above Solutions complying to IEC62443 / NIST / NERC standards and country specific regulations as per project needs.
Prepare project documentation such as Functional Design Specification (FDS), Network Architecture and testing procedures.
Design and Implementation of various third-party interface protocols such as OPC, Fieldbus, Modbus, IEC etc.
Interpret and translate specific customer requirements into series of actions with quality deliverables.
Provide technical leadership to the project engineering team on the design aspects.
Support controls retrofit/green field projects starting from the ITO (Inquiry to Order) up to final delivery of the equipment.
Lead customer design review meetings, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Integrated-FATs and travel as required to support these testing activities.
Support field services team on project commissioning activities for any design and configuration issues.
Work with product development team and other regional teams ensuring global standards on processes and best practices.
Apply knowledge of industry practices and international standards to produce high-quality and cost-effective designs.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering / Instrumentation Engineering / Cyber Security / Computer Science or equivalent.
Min 8 years of relevant industry ( Operational Technology (OT) cybersecurity) experience.
Strong knowledge on Industrial Cyber Security, Human Machine Interface (HMI) and Industrial Networks.
Prior knowledge of GE MarkVIe Systems and related Network / HMI designs or equivalent systems.
Good written and spoken communication skills in English, with demonstrated capability to structure and write technical material.
Self-starter with minimal supervision requirement; able to work without supervision; ability to prioritize, organize work and meet project engineering schedules.
Desired Characteristics
Master’s degree is a plus
Strong interpersonal and supervision skills.
Strong preference for individuals having hands on experience in the design of OT cyber security and Industrial Networks.
Certified professionals on GICSP, IEC62443, CEH, CCNA etc. are preferred.
Understanding of ISO 9001 design control standards and applying on day-to-day engineering processes.
Prior experience following quality assurance processes while working in a projects schedule-driven environment.
