The Associate will be working closely with lead Partners and Fee Earners in the firm’s highly successful and growing team, while having the opportunity to play a key role in high profile matters and future development.

About you
Our client would be interested in speaking to a Common Law Qualified Lawyer with 3-4 years post qualified experience. The ideal candidate must have strong litigation/arbitration experience gained within an international or leading national firm.

The successful candidate should have a commitment to technical excellence, within procedures and black letter law. Commercial awareness and understanding of current legal and business issues is essential as well as experience with business development initiatives.

Job Description
Job Purpose:
This role is integral to the Development and Asset Management functions of Minor Hotel Group
(MHG) in the Middle East and Africa by supporting the team in the successful implementation
of the company’s regional growth strategy. This includes managing market intelligence and structuring sensible pitches and commercial offers throughout the deal lifecycle. The role reports to the VP of Development EMEA.

Key responsibilities are as follows:

1. Development Strategy. Support the continuous evolution of Development strategy for the Middle East and Africa through market intelligence and research. Identify target markets, conversion opportunities, and attractive owning companies/partners in line with the overall business strategy of MHG.

2. Deal Sourcing. Maintain close relationships across the international hotel Owner community and investment/consultancy firms. Work jointly with the Director of Development and Vice President of Development on screening management and franchise deals. Similarly, assist Minor International business leaders to pursue opportunities identified by other divisions within the company pertaining to the Middle East and Africa region.

3. Deal Assessment. Carry out financial analysis and due diligence on proposed hotel projects, including financial projections required to determine the viability of each deal. Maintain close relationship with other international operators for market intelligence
purposes.

4. Deal Preparation. Manage the preparation of pitch documents in line with RFPs and Owner requirements. Safekeep and manage regional presentations and Development collaterals. Support and carry out live presentations. Prepare and structure commercial offers / MOUs in line with deal assessment, financial analysis undertaken, contract templates and development framework of Minor International.

5. Deal Negotiation. Assist in screening mark-up of legal agreements, support VP and Director in related negotiations required to successfully complete each proposed deal in line
with brand contract criteria and financial hurdles.

6. Deal Presentation. Present recommended deals and all required supporting analyses for
internal approval.

7. Asset Management. Assist with ongoing requests related to existing management contracts for financial projections and general coordination with internal functions.

8. Functional Alignment. Ensure an effective alignment between Development and other
critical divisions including Operations, Sales, and Finance. Support the ongoing commercial
efforts of MHG which will require having the flexibility to work on multiple projects in parallel, and the confidence and common sense to facilitate and advance the business efforts of the company.

The candidate will be working on deploying and managing Mastercard Cyber & Intelligence solutions and products in the Eastern Europe, Middle East/Africa (EEMEA) region. • Analyze market trends, dynamics, and competition in order to inform product and go-to-market strategies
• Interface with market teams, sales, finance, legal, marketing, operations, implementations as the product owner to ensure successful launch of products
• Engage in idea generation, concept validation, business case development, and in some instances financial modeling and planning

Trade Finance Operations

They cater to all the trade needs of clients by providing world class service.

Trade Finance signifies financing for Trade, and it concerns both domestic and international trade transactions. A trade transaction requires a seller of goods and services as well as a buyer. Various intermediaries such as Banks and Financial institutions can facilitate these transactions by financing the trade.

Overall purpose of role

Managing the day to day functioning of trade operations and ensuring required support is provided for offshore and internal clients.

Handling client queries and ensure they are responded to the satisfaction of customers.

Comply with all internal, external and Central Bank and DFSA policies and procedures.

Ensuring seamless service delivery and support for offshore colleagues to ensure there are no process failures.

Manage and perform the daily control activities of Trade operations covering all product offerings.

Ensure all departmental process documents, flows, risk and control self-assessment are periodically reviewed and update periodically.

Support in the roll out of projects providing requirements, UAT testing, go live support to avoid any client impact.

Support the team manager in all internal and external audits and reviews.

Key Accountabilities

To manage the day to day working of Trade Operations.

Handling and responding to client queries relating to all transactional activities within agreed turnaround times.

Follow up on transactions and track through to completion.

Properly monitor the own transactions and ensure that any errors identified are escalated to the onshore and offshore team leaders.

FI pricing & limit allocation to be tracked and make sure that correct pricing and calculation applied to all transactions.

Initiate process improvements in BX and Onshore.

For high profile clients without account in Barclays, export transactions to be monitored and tracked for timely completion.

Guarantees issued by other FIs need to be coordinated directly with the respective Banks for quick turnaround time and avoid any delay.

Ensure queries are logged on CRM in a timely manner on all client interaction.

Proactively identify and mitigate potential risk events / operational losses / fraud.

Ensure QA are completed in a timely manner and outcome published accordingly.

Ensure all RCA controls for your areas of responsibility are effective.  Updated whenever a change to the process is made

To support internal & external audits review.

Training and guiding offshore teams in handling of day to day operation for transaction operations.

To operate as a contact for offshore BAU issues, including system and procedural issues.

Updating of department process notes and process flows in line with system changes and new regulations and process.

Minimum Qualifications/Education/Experience/knowledge

Qualifications and Education: Bachelor’s Degree

Training: Preferably completed negotiations skills and time management training

Knowledge: Has a thorough knowledge of the Property & Casualty industry. Advanced skills in MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.

Job Accountabilities

Maintain the Casualty Underwriting Guidelines that adhere to all corporate and support the strategy and profit goals of the company. Underwrite new and renewal business to promote premium growth within UW authority. Achieve overall production goal in collaboration with the Underwriting Manager. Provide sound underwriting decisions, exhibit flexibility, and price risks to achieve established profit goals for the company. Provide feedback on renewal loss ratios that exceed permissible. Identify poor performing accounts. Work independently to evaluate and analyze submissions, apply underwriting guidelines/business practices and make an underwriting decision. Maintaining broker/client relationships. Generate new business from existing producers and up-sell current accounts. Ensure that all casualty pricing tools are being used correctly and that all casualty quotes, binders and policies are issued in accordance with regulatory and corporate policies. Adhere to underwriting authority & underwriting guidelines reference in the AIG Casualty Intranet site. Ensuring that all underwriting decisions are documented in the underwriting file. Ensure that all underwriting directives and compliance process are followed. Ensure the tracking of all Casualty Accounts of AIG UAE Ensure timely update of eStart and other tracking tools Ensure timely booking of all policies Handling of all process oriented tasks ensuring a smooth process in place Other tasks that may be deemed necessary as per the Casualty requirements.

Communication and Working Relationships

Internal

  • Collaborates with other team members of the Casualty department and peer underwriters within Commercial Lines.
  • Develops strong interpersonal relationships with assigned countries and their employees.

External

To foster positive business relationships with producers and clients.

Key Competencies

  • Should have excellent technical knowledge of all liability products and common market wordings
  • Demonstrate good business management skills in planning, organizational ability, decision-making, and priority setting with superior time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, self-manages, organizes and prioritizes work with minimal direction from superiors. Perform multi tasks simultaneous and shift focus quickly.
  • Ability to establish trust and effective working relationships with team, filed offices and producers.
  • Integrity, image, communication skills, interpersonal skills at an established high professional level.
  • Commitment to maintain and develop underwriting skills and technical knowledge.
