Role Purpose

To facilitate the effective learning of English both inside and outside the classroom, in order to enable students and customers to function more effectively in the language and to increase their understanding of the contemporary UK


Main accountabilities

Teaching: To plan, prepare and deliver 18 hours (Part time contract) of English language classes and materials and to take account of individual learning styles and provide an environment conducive to learning. Substitute for sick teachers as required and as per local British Council Bahrain arrangements. For Hourly paid work, we expect commitment of up to 15 hours per week for whole 12 week terms.


Feedback: To assess students’ competence/monitor student progress and give feedback to students/parents/sponsors on student performance to allow student and teacher to take action and to encourage student autonomy


Pedagogy: To keep updated professionally to ensure high standards are maintained so that the British Council remains at the forefront of best ELT practice


Cultural relations: To contribute to the development of mutually beneficial relationships between Bahrain and the UK by enhancing students' understanding of the contemporary UK and by promoting the full range of British Council services and activities


Role specific knowledge and experience:

Language requirements

High level of proficiency in English (equivalent to CEF C2, IELTS 8.5)

 

Qualifications 

University Degree

CELTA, Trinity Certificate TESOL or equivalent (global minimum standard)

 

Experience

2 years post-certificate i.e. CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL experience

Experience in teaching relevant age groups

Young learners aged 6 to 10 (400+ hours)

Young learners aged 11 to 13 (400+ hours)

Young learners aged 14 to 17 (400+ hours)

Adults General English 18+ (800+ hours)

 

Threshold requirements:

COVID-19 Vaccination: As per Ministry of Public Health guidelines, our teachers are required to be fully vaccinated to teach. Candidates will need to demonstrate this by providing proof of vaccination

 


All expatriates require sponsorship in order to work in Bahrain. What you’ll be working on

Reporting to the Head of Admissions, the successful candidate will supervise a small team of Admissions Officers to support families wishing to apply for entry to the British School of Bahrain. He/she will be a key front-line member of the team, acting as the first point of contact for Admissions, from enquiry through to enrolment. Responsibilities will include campus recruitment, visit management, enrolment, recording of accurate information and liaison with key members of staff. Will supervise the rest of the Admissions team in the best practice of these areas of responsibilities and ensure that all members of the team are performing these roles to the highest quality. Will be asked to produce reports when required to support continuous analysis and improvement of the work of the Department. Will also work closely with colleagues in Marketing to develop marketing materials, coordinate and deliver events and raise awareness through social media.


Job Description:

Position Qualifications:

• 2 to 3 years experience in sales, customer service or a related field, experience in the British education sector is a plus.
