AgX - Sr Director Research & Development (R&D)- AeroFarms, Abu Dhabi, UAE
Summary
The Director/Sr Director of Research and Development (R&D), located in Abu Dhabi-UAE, will be responsible for all aspects of Research and Development in our new state of the art R&D facility, AeroFarms AgX. Reporting to the General Manager and the VP of R&D they will provide scientific direction and leadership for the company’s global R&D organization.
Responsibilities
Partner with the General Manager and the VP of R&D to deliver the overall strategic plan for AeroFarms AgX
Build a fully functioning local R&D organization
Lead, manage and develop a diverse team of scientists, growers, molecular biologists, and chemists
In partnership with the General Manager, develop and manage the R&D operating budget for the facility
Provide oversight and scientific leadership to the R&D project portfolio from experimental design through execution
In partnership with the Business Development team, engage external technical stakeholders and communicate with global partners regarding current and future R&D projects and capabilities
Contribute to patent applications and patent strategy development for AeroFarms
Work collaboratively with other global departments such as Engineering, IT and Operations
Ensure that projects remain on schedule, are delivered with high quality, great customer satisfaction and achievement of target goals
Qualifications & Experience **
A PhD in Plant Physiology/Eco-physiology, Horticulture, Plant Science, or an MS and equivalent experience
Minimum 10 years of industry experience in a scientific leadership position in controlled environment agriculture
Highly developed leadership, people management and communication skills
A proven track record of leading multidisciplinary research teams
Experience leading engagements with external stakeholders including research and commercial partners, government agencies, and investors
Experience developing and administering department and project budgets
Experience growing specialty crops; leafy greens and herbs experience preferred.
Strong background in characterizing plant physiological processes and agronomic/ horticultural traits including plant yield and quality in response to abiotic stress
Experience with characterization of plants, including imaging, phenotyping, chemical analysis, and/or objective measurements of taste and texture
Strong aptitude with experimental design and statistical analysis
Previous experience in the GCC region is a plus
Important Considerations:
** This position requires a complete residency in Abu Dhabi, UAE
** This position must be accessible during some US work hours for reporting and coordinating
