General Area of Responsibility:
Responsible for leadership of the Asia & Sub-Saharan Africa cluster which includes support and direct leadership of existing and new operations within the assigned geography. Current operations span across Angola, Bangladesh, China, India, Mozambique & Philippines. As a member of the Regional Leadership Team, play an active part within the overall Svitzer AMEA Regional strategy and assume full responsibility for the existing portfolio with a strong ambition to build a sustainable and ambitious growth strategy for the Cluster in close collaboration with the Regional and Global Commercial teams.
Specific Areas of Responsibility:
Customer Orientation & Growth
Demonstrates superior customer orientation – deeply listens and can uncover a clearer understanding of the customer requirements/ needs, can connect, and establish deep professional relationships, and can convert and articulate those needs into value propositions for Svitzer.
Continuous focus on relationship building with key and potential customers and other internal/external stakeholders and authorities in Asia & Sub-Saharan Africa Cluster countries.
Identify, develop and secure business development opportunities within Asia & Sub-Saharan Africa Cluster and neighboring countries in close collaboration with Regional and Global Commercial teams
Business Leadership
Assume full accountability for the delivery of safe, cost effective, competitive, and timely marine services to customers from existing and new operations in the cluster.
Financial performance of Asia & Sub-Saharan Africa Cluster, including revenue, OPEX, capitalised maintenance & repair and overhead
Plan, execute and evaluate business and operational strategies to maximize the value of Svitzer’s business in the assigned geography and operations.
Continuously drive operational excellence and customer focused solutions in terms of timely, reliable and safe service.
Promote an unrivalled security and safety environment within the assigned geography, making Safety and Security a competitive advantage for SVITZER (“Do it Safely or Not at All”).
Promote an industry-leading safety culture and ensure adherence to all safety procedures and policies.
Drive cost efficiency in all administration, operation and technical expenditure.
Implement best practice standards for finance and operations, as communicated by SVITZER Group and/or AMEA Region.
Ensure adherence to all legal and regulatory requirements for the Asia & Sub-Saharan Africa Cluster in co-operation with AMEA Region Legal Counsel.
In co-ordination with the Regional CFO, maintain an efficient financial organisation to secure financial transparency, reporting and analysis.
Ensure that vessels are crewed and equipped according to legal requirements and SVITZER standards for relevant operational activities.
Ensure that fleet investments and operational capabilities are scaled to match the Regional strategy.
People Leadership
Lead Country Managers and Contract Managers within the assigned geography and nurture them in their professional development and progress.
Lead an engaged onshore and offshore organization.
Develop people – coaching and mentoring to build organizational capability, talent and bench strength.
Additional Oversight:
Overview and insight into Asia & Sub-Saharan Africa Cluster project pipelines and contracts.
Maintain keen market intelligence awareness including competition capabilities and capacity.
Lead change management projects, both operational and strategic, with a special focus on implementation of new business.
Board member representation for companies operating within the responsibility of Svitzer AMEA Region.
Education / Functional Experience:
Previous experience as a Large Unit Leader / Managing Director experienced in the profitable performance of an asset heavy enterprise, preferably in the Maritime sector.
Bachelor’s degree in a business stream is required, a master’s degree desired.
Demonstrated experience and passion with extensive customer engagement at all levels – board, executive management, management, and frontline.
Sound financial management knowledge and analytical capacity. Structured and data driven, and well versed at driving this into the business.
Strong business acumen and good negotiating and solid presentation skills.
A clear communicator - excellent verbal and written English communication skills and the capability to interact with people at a broad range of levels.
Effective stakeholder management up to Ministerial level.
The ability to think conceptually while managing the detail.
Ability to work effectively in a matrix structure.
Willingness to travel.
